Dürkopp motorcar “Phaeton” on the road again

A veteran car as taken from the picture book highlights the NRW Day Parade in Bielefeld

For the traditional parade on Saturday, June 28 th, 2014,  the car built around 1910 was polished to a mirror finish. Wolfram Schulze,  a former staff member of Dürkopp Adler, brought the Phaeton („sun car“) back to its past splendour with great passion and commitment. With a respectable output of 24 hp and a top speed of 75 km/h the motorcar belonged to the masterpieces of engineering at that time.
104 years after leaving the former company Dürkoppwerke in Bielefeld the Phaeton rolled along the streets of Bielefeld again on the occasion of the NRW Day.
The parade started at the Bielefeld municipal hall and led then through the city centre.
From the municipal hall the parade moved along the Bahnhofstraße, across the Jahnplatz and  the AlterMarkt to the NRW mile on the Niederwall where the event was moderated. Via Jahnplatz and Herforder Straße the procession made its way back to the starting point where it ended after a distance of 2.5 km.
However, the sun car of Dürkopp was not the only eye-catcher.  Numerous further participants showed a colourful kaleidoscope of most different activities, as e.g. international and national bands and music groups, sports teams, traditional customs associations and shooting clubs, dance groups and actors from the federal state of research NRW.
